San Gorgonio Mountain is the tallest peak in Southern California. At 11,500 FT it towers over the surrounding peaks including Mt Baldy and San Jacinto. Climbing over 20 miles and 5500FT to the summit, the standard San Gorgonio hike to the summit is tough even in perfect summer conditions. While we've enjoyed hiking this peak several times in the summer, we never before had attempted to hike San...

Climbing Mt. Baldy Bowl in Winter

Mt. Baldy Bowl is a Southern California hiking rite of passage. Hiking Mt. Baldy in winter offers climbers the choice of the standard Ski Hut trail OR the Baldy Bowl, which is essentially the Mt. Wow, well done! That looks amazing! Contrary to many I actually love climbing in crampons, but I could not believe you were doing it basically in trailrunners, thats a whole other level. Am can't wait for the summer to arrive in full force!

Love waterfalls! Another fun video. Hey Adam, rattlers bugs me too. Hiking here in the deserts of eastern washington, I encounter rattlesnakes several times each year. Even hearing them rattle in the bushes next to the trail is nerve racking.

Hesperoyucca whipplei, aka; Our Lord’s Candle , from the Agave family. And lots of beautiful monkey flower! Snakes are the worst part of summer hiking . Good to hear I’m not the only one who is constantly on the lookout. Once you have a standoff with a coiled rattler on the trail, you won’t laugh so much Elise!

Walking that ascent with walking sticks rather than ice picks seems a bit suicidal. Walking it half naked might attract a couple more views but cannot be considered alpinist best practice. You get a lot a praise for completely unsafe behavior. It‘s really a bad example of alpinism, if you can call that, despite the fact that you made it.

Your Mount Whitney hike was sketchy!! That waterfall looked freezing cold! Those circling birds were definitely vultures, not hawks. Condors are a vulture, but given how scarce they are, I don't think they were CA Condors.

Rattlesnakes are very shy and want nothing to do with you. Have you been to the Lover's Leap climbing area off Hwy 50? They're all over the place and you rarely hear of a climber being bitten.

Cool video! I worked at a monument in NM that had plenty of rattlesnakes, and we had training from the guy who runs a rattlesnake museum. What I learned is that in all your adventures you probably were within five feet of a rattler numerous times. They only go into an offensive mode if they feel threatened. They are a lot more scared of you than you are of them… well, except for Adam. 😊 We had to relocate many or just get them to move from where visitors normally go.

I prefer conflicts with mammal brains although I find reptile brains make interesting peaceful encounters. I'm *definitely* not scared of bird brains. One thing to keep in mind, we always assume humans are being picked on in reports of conflicts with wild life. But really? Maybe when they tell their stories that way. But I think it is mostly the other way round, sometimes humans blundering into a misunderstanding, then a small fraction of wildlife aggression. The scariest creature I can think of sneaking up on my tent at night is homo sapien.

Hello Adam....I am there with you on the snakes. I have countless and countless many times have come into a snake area while we'd be walking through the woods or desert at night in the army. I don't like hearing them....and not seeing them in the dark. I hope you two are well. I just had a night in Orange County last night and we are now up by Stockton CA for 3 nights. I am currently trying to determine what there is to do in this area. My wife and I just returned from 2 weeks of camping in the Tucson area. We went there to 1) get out of the lingering Colorado high country winter and 2) to consider moving there. I think we are going to make a go at it; but not until next year.

ELISE and ADAM a hello from France. What a pleasure to see you under this waterfall, you have a blast like big children. In most of your videos, majestic birds accompany you, it's probably a nod to nature protecting you. Alone in this lush nature with the most beautiful flowers, you can meet dangerous snakes and mammals, and I can't help but make this little joke, when will the E-T and their UFO come? More seriously, you forgot to list the hairy tarantula that once blocked the passage of ELISE. ADAM I find your shimmering red shorts, proof that the new sunny season is here. I'm waiting for these new adventures with great videos that I won't fail to watch. Kisses to you both. DAN

Decades ago, a memorable encounter with a rattlesnake left a lasting impression on me. My coworker and I were working among oak trees near Angels Camp during the summer. As we were making our way through the area, we stumbled upon a large rattlesnake coiled up and rattling its tail. It was my first time seeing a wild rattlesnake, and I was both fascinated and terrified. The most unsettling part of the encounter was when my coworker used a long chainsaw to lop off the snake's head. The decapitated head continued to move, opening and closing its mouth in a bizarre and unnerving manner. In a precautionary measure, my coworker picked up a nearby boulder and crushed the head to prevent any potential harm to others. After ensuring the snake's head was no longer a threat, my coworker proceeded to the headless snake, still coiled up and writhing. He carefully picked up the snake, wearing his leather gloves, and used his buck knife to cut off the rattle as a souvenir. It was the first and last time I touched a rattlesnake's rattle in my life. My coworker shared an interesting fact about baby rattlesnakes, warning that they should be avoided at all costs. According to him, young snakes lack control over the amount of venom they release, and would release it all at once. I can understand why he would be concerned about these venomous creatures. The experience had a profound impact on me, and I've been extremely cautious when hiking in California ever since. The encounter remains etched in my memory, a reminder of the importance of being aware of the wildlife that inhabits our natural surroundings. I am also afraid of snakes. Can't blame Adam for being cautious. Glad you two had a great time hiking. : )
